The group Holunape and its predecessor, Kilinahe, have had such a high profile that the high quality of this debut album comes as no surprise. Kama Hopkins, Kekoa Kaluhiwa and Brad Nakamura are staunch neo-traditionalists and do an excellent job here as conservators of traditional Hawaiian music with their renditions of classics by John K. Almeida, Lena Machado and Joseph Kalima. (Hopkins is the composer of two others.)
